Preface

This report contains summaries of papers on reactor safety research to be presented at the 29th Nuclear Safety Research Conference (formerly known as the Water Reactor Safety Information Meeting) at the Marriott Hotel at Metro Center in Washington, DC, October 22-24, 2001. They briefly describe the programs and results of nuclear safety research sponsored by the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research, U.S. NRC. Also included are summaries of invited papers concerning nuclear safety issues from U.S. government laboratories, the electric utilities, the nuclear industry, and from foreign governments and industry. The abstracts have been compiled here to provide a basis for meaningful discussion of information exchanged during the course of the meeting, and are in the order of their presentation on each day of the meeting.
